Reporting to the Director of the O'Brien Center for Student Success, this individual will provide academic, professional and career counseling services for undergraduate and graduate students, and young alumni. This position will support faculty in short and long term academic planning; individual counseling; and group career counseling to students. The Counselor will administer and interpret career assessment instruments, conduct resume critiques, and teach interview and job search techniques. The successful candidate will present career development workshops and seminars as well, to guide students from selection of academic major through to the job search or application to graduate or professional schools. Additionally, this individual will represent the office at events and provide drop-in hour coverage.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Undeclared Cohort for Liberal Arts, which involves engaging first year undeclared students in career exploration and preparation as part of a new retention effort, collaborating with Class Deans to encourage first year utilization of academic and career services, and working with the office to develop a marketing campaign to engage them. Develop and supervise peer mentors; co-plan and facilitate career-related programming for this new cohort program.
  • Ability to perform psychosocial interviewing and counseling techniques including the administration and interpretation of the MBTI, STRONG and other psychological test.
  • Knowledge of current social, economic and employment trends; employer staffing practices, need and recruitment.
  • Knowledge of methods/techniques of research, analysis, presentation of statistical data, record keeping and proposal/business/report writing.
  • Ability to communicate using electronic media and graphic presentation tools and experience using CSO or Nacelink.
A master's degree in counseling is required with three years of related work experience. Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to be flexible and work as part of a team in program development and execution are required; as is the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
